The famous town of Wengen is located in the Bernese Oberland at an altitude of approx. 1,274 m and offers a breathtaking view of the panorama of the surrounding four-thousand-meter peaks.
Wengen has only been accessible from Lauterbrunnen (approx. 3.5 km) with the Wengernalp Railway since 1893, because the village has no direct connection to the road network and is car-free. Not only the nostalgic wooden houses, chalets and many small shops, but also the unique location, which guarantees an above-average amount of sunshine, make Wengen a very special holiday destination.
In addition, numerous cultural events such as concerts, choir and yodelling performances take place in the center of the village during each main season. But the charming mountain village also scores in terms of winter sports: the world-famous Lauberhorn ski race takes place here every January.
This downhill run is one of the most demanding slopes in the Alpine Ski World Cup. Winter hikers will also get their money’s worth here. You will be more than impressed by the unique mountain landscape on a total of around 100 km of hiking trails in the Jungfrau Region!
Jungfrau region
Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau with the famous Eiger north face are the trademarks of the Jungfrau Region. Located in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, the area extends from Interlaken to the peaks of the Jungfrau massif. An impressive mountain panorama and crystal clear lakes attract thousands of tourists to the famous holiday resorts every year.
The region is home to some treasures, such as the “Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn” with the longest ice flow in the Alps (22 km), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The restaurant “Piz Gloria” on the Schilthorn (2,970 m), which served as the backdrop for the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, is probably just as famous. The “Top of Europe” is the highest train station in Europe and is located at an altitude of 3,454 m.
