GOLF HISTORY
The golf course was designed mostly on golfing legend and 9-time Major Golf Champion Mr Gary Players farm, the farm was home to his family for 30 years along with the Gary Player Stud where he bred many thorough bred champions in the South African horse racing industry. The course has a number of features that stand out in terms of design, the greens and bunkers are the largest in Africa, and in terms of length it’s the 2nd longest course in the world off the Black tees(pro) 8350 yards . The Crocodile River meanders through the golf course and being one of the cleanest rivers in Gauteng we are proud of our efforts as an estate in looking after this valuable asset. Having four to five sets of tees to choose from before play the course allows you to select what type of game you wish to enjoy, the white tees are the standard ladies tees and silver being the men’s club tee.
COURSE INFORMATION
- Blair Atholl’s Golf Course is the second longest course in the world off the Black tees ( Pro Tee) , 7527 meters or 8231 yards
- There are 5 sets of tees to best suit your game
- The greens and well positioned bunkers are the largest in Africa
- There is a Par 3 course within the main course to allow juniors and new golfers the opportunity to establish their short games
- Mr Player designed the course on his home farm over a 20 year period
- Mr Players practice range , practice bunker and entertainment lapa are still in place , many high profile guests have passed through Blair Atholl during its history.
- The Halfway house has been voted number 1 in SA on numerous occasions along the banks of the Crocodile River
- The estate is 660 hectares in size with 329 erven , low density featured with space and wildlife
- The Course record is held by Thriston Lawrence who 64 shot in 2021 at the Inaugural BA Championship .
- Established in 2007
- The 3rd hole is our signature hole a wonderful Par 3 similar to Augusta’s 12th hole
- The 16th Hole is our stroke 1 , tainted as the toughest par 4 in the SA 512 meters uphill from the pro tee.
- The Blair Mile , holes 14,15 and 16 are the 3 longest consecutive par 4’s in SA , they measure 1509 meters from the pro tee or 1650 yards
- The Crocodile river meandering through course is featured on 8 holes
