The La Printse ski area and the Veysonnaz ski resort offer all the requirements for a successful winter holiday in the 4 Vallees ski region.

1) General information about the 4 Valees / La Printse ski area

The ski resort of Veysonnaz is a mountain village in the Swiss canton of Valais, which is picturesquely situated in the Rhône valley at an altitude of 1,233 m.

The 4 Vallees / La Printse ski area is named after the river of the same name, in whose valley the municipality of Veysonnaz extends. Between 1,400 m and 2,700 m above sea level, the La Printse ski area offers 44 lifts that open up varied slopes with 220 kilometers of slopes.

The 4 Vallees ski region is the largest contiguous ski region in Switzerland and comprises the Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Verbier and Thyon ski regions including Mont Fort.

At a height of 3,329 m, this forms the center of the ski region. 214 snow-making systems guarantee great skiing fun in the 4 Vallees. 74 lifts with 18 cable cars as well as 39 drag lifts and 17 chair lifts lead to the downhill runs of the 412 kilometers of slopes. 107 km of blue, 202 km of red and 103 km of black slopes offer winter sports enthusiasts of all skill levels varied skiing fun.

The snow parks “Centralpark Veysonnaz” in Thyon, “La Chaux” in Verbier and “Woodpark” in Nendaz offer areas for beginners, advanced and professionals. Freestylers let off steam to their heart’s content in the challenges of the various obstacles.

Cross-country skiers can discover carefully groomed trails in the neighboring villages of Veysonnaz at snow-sure heights: 5 kilometers of trails in Thyon, 10 km in Nendaz and 20 km in Verbier lead on leisurely to sporty routes through breathtaking winter landscapes.

The average snow depth in the La Printse ski area is 20 cm at the valley station and 160 cm at the mountain station. Winter vacationers enjoy an average of 5.5 hours of sunshine a day.

Winter vacationers can confidently leave their car behind in Veyssonaz, because the ski bus runs free of charge within the 4 Vallees ski areas. Several sports shops have rental stations where you can rent ski, cross-country and snowboard equipment from top international brands.

Several shops offer ski rental, service and ski depots. The ski schools “Neige Adventure” in Haute-Nendaz, “Arc-en-Ciel Siviez” in Siviez and the “Swiss Ski School” in Thyon teach snowboarders and skiers in individual or group courses.

They have their own children’s ski schools and offer kindergartens for the little ski racers. In Veysonnaz there is a children’s park with a magic carpet and a children’s slope, where the little ones can discover the joy of skiing.

Veysonnaz is known as the venue for the Ski World Cup on the legendary “Piste de l’Ours”. This “bear slope” runs between Veysonnaz and Thyon and offers experts a sporting challenge.

Winter sports enthusiasts experience romantic skiing fun while skiing under the full moon on the “Piste de la Dent” and the “Piste de Traxouet”. On the “Fontanet Piste”, ambitious people can try their hand at the competition in the “AudiQuattro” ski cross.

Freestylers can let off steam on the obstacles of the “Centralpark” snow park. The fun park in Thyon was named the best snow park in western Switzerland in 2011. It offers spacious areas for beginners and experts as well as an inviting chill-out area. In Thyon, cross-country skiers glide over the classic trails “Piste de ski de fond de la Mura”, “Parcours de ski de fond de Thyon 2000” and the “Parcours de ski de fond des Chottes” with 1, 0.5 and 5 km Length.

If you want to experience the fascination of heli-skiing, you have the opportunity to do so in the 4 Vallees ski region in Verbier.

5) Off-piste activities in 4 Valees

In the 4 Valees / La Printse ski area, winter sports enthusiasts can look forward to a wide range of varied activities away from the slopes. With its altitude, Veysonnaz is an ideal starting point for snowshoe hikes in the midst of an incomparable mountain backdrop.

The easy-to-walk 10 km route “Les Chottes de la Combyre” and the 5.3 km medium-difficulty route “La Zeu” are two of four marked snowshoe trails, on which you can leave everyday life behind you in no time at all.

Not far from the “Le Tipi” snow bar, you can whiz down the 75 m long track while snow tubing on tires. Those who prefer tobogganing can rent a sledge from the sledge rental shop and explore the toboggan runs in Thyon, Nendaz and La Tzoumaz. The ice rinks in Nendaz and Les Collons are ideal for ice skating fans.

Valais cuisine is known for its cheese specialties, above all the melted “raclette”. Other culinary delights include the hearty cheese fondue, the spicy Valais dried meat and the hearty “Gsottus”, complemented by fresh rye bread and regional wines.
In Veysonnaz around 20 mountain restaurants, ski huts and bars offer a rich gastronomic offer. In the center of the village, the “Café Bon Vin” serves regional dishes such as cheese fondues and delicious wines in a cozy atmosphere. The “Le Greppon Blanc” awaits its guests in front of an impressive mountain panorama with typical specialties on slates and in kettles.
In “La Terrasse”, vacationers enjoy Mediterranean and French specialties with a breathtaking view of the Rhône Valley. On the cable car station, the family-friendly “Relais des Mayens” delights with national dishes, at the “Piste la Cheminée” the small “Cabane des Crêtes” entices you to stop for refreshments. The rustic huts “Les Caboulis” and “Les Chottes” with their Valais delicacies and local wines can also be reached from the slopes.

Winter vacationers who like to plunge into the nightlife and celebrate with hearty après-ski can discover the discotheque “La Pacha” in Veysonnaz or enjoy the live music in “Le Tipi” at 2,000 m. In the “Bar le Barloucâ” 75 special beers are waiting to be tasted, while in the “Bar Vague à l’Âme” there is also live music.

In the indoor pool of Veysonnaz, winter vacationers can swim their laps after skiing or relax in the attached wellness centre with massages, in the sauna and in the jacuzzi.

6) Locations in the 4 Valees ski area

With its idyllic altitude on Mont Rouge, Veysonnaz offers an impressive view of the Rhône valley. The municipality is framed by the mountain ranges of the Valais and Bernese Alps, with around 600 inhabitants in the Sion district, 13 km southwest of the city of the same name.

Sion (Sion), the capital of the canton of Valais, is a worthwhile excursion destination with its historic city center. The sights of its medieval old town include the town hall, built in the Renaissance style, the cathedral “Notre Dame du Glarian” and the pilgrimage church “Notre Dame de Valère”, which rises on the rock of the same name.

As a holiday resort and neighboring municipality of Veysonnaz, Nendaz comprises 15 localities, including Haute-Nendaz, Baisse-Nendaz and Siviez. Siviez, at 1,730 m above sea level, is the highest village in Nendaz.

Thyon is located at 2,095 m in the Val d’Hérémence and is divided into the municipalities of Hérémence and Vex. Thyon connects directly to Veysonnaz.

7) Arrival in the 4 Valees / La Printse ski area

Veysonnaz in the 4 Valees / La Printse ski area can be reached by car from Zurich, 286 km northeast, via Bern and Sion via the A1 and A9. From Munich, 598 km away, you also drive via Zurich and Bern to Veysonnaz. In Switzerland it is mandatory to purchase a motorway vignette.

You can get there by train via Sion’s main station, which is connected to Veysonnaz by the 363 post bus. The nearest airports are in Sion and in Bern, 165 km to the north. The 4 Valees / La Printse ski area received four stars in our expert test in the “Arrival & Parking” category.
